Odd connection ritual

Postby Slowhand » Tue Aug 13, 2019 11:32 am

A simfriend and I fly weekly together using JoinFS. But connecting is a bit of a strange ritual.
What is the case: We use each other’s IP addresses. The first creates a network, and after that the second connects... with no result. Connect button is yellow.
We switch. The other creates a network and the other connects. With also often no result.
We switch again. But after 2 to 4 attempts, its bingo, connected. And once we are connected, all goes well.
Question is, is this normal? Because we don't think it is, but have no idea why.

We use v.1.4.34 and had to do the same ritual in the past with older versions (almost used to it).
We both use FSX Steam Ed. on Win10. Both have given JoinFS Firewall permission.

I remember, back in the dayz when i was using fsx, or fsx steam later on .... IF i wanted to "host" a multiplayer session
i had many problems and nobody could see my session's title in the list.

I then started searching around ... and found out that if i wanted to be the host in fsx, my IP adress has to be STATIC !!
But i had no static ip :? , so i searched around again and found some tutorial videos, how to do it your self.
I did it and after that, everyone could see me in the list (fsx list, not joinFS) ... it worked somehow. ;)

...Could THAT maybe be your problem ?... don't know, just a thought.

Have you told your router which port JoinFS is using?

We did it differently yesterday. We both joined a global network server, DTP in this case. Much easier.
Thanks for the reactions.

You should also be able to tick the Global session tickbox.

You will then see everybody else who has ticked that box, without having to find a session you can both join.

For example if you meet up every Thursday.
You may say to the people you fly with "I'll se you next Thursday in the XYZ session".
But one Thursday the XYZ session might not be available.

Global session is the best option in my opinion.
