Incompatible Address?

Postby edakridge » Sun Oct 29, 2017 5:07 pm

I'm getting this error in the monitor this morning when trying to connect with one of our servers: "10/29/2017 1:00:05 PM An address incompatible with the requested protocol was used, fe80::f48f:7d3:9905:f101%10:6112"

What exactly does this mean and is there a way to fix it?

Someone else has reported this as well. It's trying to do something with an IPv6 address, which is unsupported by JoinFS. Did it happen after you updated JoinFS to a new version, or was it after a Windows update at all?

Does JoinFS still function correctly after getting the message? It could be that someone has specified this as their hub address, in which case I just need to handle those cases.

It is a computer that we are trying to use as a Hub or Server. I am able to connect, but receive this error in the monitor. I am connecting using his IPV4 IP address, but I believe that IPV6 is available in his area.

Peter, we identified the issue. As his server computer JoinFS was set to port 6112, we were connecting to his flight computer which also had this port open. He changed the port on the server to 6464 and all is well. I assume that the connections were taking the path of least resistance, which turned out to be his flight computer.

Ah, interesting, thanks for the information. I will investigate this a little bit further. I should be able to handle the error and display something more meaningful in the monitor output.

Peter, we have a member who cannot connect. I have run a log of our testing for about an hour tonight. The Incompatible address keeps showing up. I am attaching a copy of the log from the Server/Hub. Any suggestions are welcomed!

I've fixed a minor problem on one of the initialization files on the pmem.uk website. Could you try restarting your server JoinFS and see if you still get that error? If you still see it then close JoinFS, remove hubs.dat from the JoinFS app folder, and start JoinFS.

I don't think that error has anything to do with your member not being able to connect. Can you make sure that he is running the same version of JoinFS as your server. Is he able to connect to other people?

Peter, the error is no longer showing up. He is now able to connect after going DMZ and then back in his router. I am not sure why that worked, but it did.

Good news about the error message, that confirms what I thought it was.

Thanks for the update.
